Welcome To My Website

This site was last updated on July 1st, 2008. Four new paintings have been added to the 2008 gallery, all painted en plein air, at locations around the Comox Valley. Painting out of doors has its challenges, but the rewards far outweigh any difficulties that are faced when set up in situ. Because of the need to capture the subject quickly, the work is looser and much more fluid and has a feeling of being alive that is hader to achieve in a studio setting.

This summer promises to be a busy one. I'll be spending July preparing for two big events. The Comox Valley Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists will be having a booth at the Filberg Festival which runs from August 1-4 at Filberg Park in Comox. This is a very popular fair with many high quality, well known Island artists and artisans. Our booth will be located very near the historic Lodge, and 27 of our artists will have their work on display. Some of the artists will be painting on site. You can find me painting there on Monday, Aug 4, from 2:30 to 6:00 in the afternoon.

On August 9th and 10th I will be taking part in the Originals Only Art Show and Sale, in the Comox Marina Park. Information about this event can be found by clicking the Originals Only link at the bottom of the page. I will be sharing a booth with Teresa Knight and will have all my newest work on display. Hope to see you there.

Lone Sail off Gartley Point  Summer has finally arrived and the infamous Tuesday Night painters no longer have to bundle up against the wind, rain, or cold as we paint out and about in the Comox Valley. This evening at Gartley Point, when I painted this picture, was one of the first where the longer, brighter days  enlivened the colours to vivid hues. And with that in mind I translated the rocky, grey beach into one of golden sand. As I quickly sketched my picture in, I caught one sailboat, but it was long gone by the time the work was completed.
